Get excited. I'm heading up to Rexburg for another semester at BYU-Idaho. And although I'm estatic (like beaming) for this new adventure, I'm going to miss this break. If you told me that at the beginning of my break, I would have just laughed at you. Right in your face.
My life at that time included no job, no close friends, no siblings, etc. But I wasn't going to just sit idly by. And 3 jobs, 2 online classes, and 1 zumba video later here I am already missing my time at home in Malta.
However, it wasn't the jobs or experiences that made the break memorable. It was the people I loved, the people I already knew but got to know better, and the people I got to meet. I was reading my fantastic friend, Madison's fantastic blog and came across this post. I thought "oh how nice" and was touched that she mentioned me, but didn't give much thought. It was until later this week that it dawned on me.
I am surrounded by amazing people.
And while I can make list upon list of people who have blessed my life, I want to focus on those who have helped me through this winter break that could have been depressing rather than the adventure it was.
My Zumba Ladies: So I decided to try something new and lead fitness classes at the church house. By far, my most popular class was Zumba....well, more like conservative zumba. Thanks to Miss Jewelee (my former cheerleader advisor) for the pumpin' sound system, JuliAnn Loughmiller for the sound effects, ALL the regulars (and not so regulars) for their support despite my sometimes lack of professionalism, and all the kids that ran with us, gave me hugs even when I was sweaty, and created doors of opportunities for the moms to escape some of the exercises. Not only was it a great way to stay in shape, it got me out of the house, I was able to explore an occupational field that I might be interested in, and I was able to get to know some of the amazing ladies around this area. For my last day, we had a brunch to celebrate and they all gave me cards and their appreciation. One lady mentioned that she dropped a pant size! That was the best reward for spending all those mornings in the church gym.
The Bake Family (and all the Bake Central employees, especially Bonnie): I mentioned to Valerie Bake that I didn't have a job for this semester even though I knew Bake Central was full of employees. However, one day Gary called and offered me a job on Fridays. Even though it was just one day a week, it was great to be in that environment and working with some of my favorite people. Last night I was able to attend their son's baptism and once again they proved to be such a strong family.
Everyone at the Burley Public Library: At the beginning of February I got an email from the aforementioned library that they needed a temporary employee. Perfect!! The librarians were flexible and easy to work with while the volunteers made the job so much more entertaining. I got to meet a variety of people that have opened my circle of friendship that much more.
My music students: Katelin Bake was brave enough to take singing lessons from me while Riley Dewsnup learned how to play the piano. Katelin had so much enthusiasm to sing and was always willing to try new songs. She sang for her brother's baptism and did amazing. I felt like a mom who gets nervous every time she watches her child perform. Riley was fun to teach as well. We were learning the names to the white keys on the piano. One time after frustratingly trying to figure out a not she blurted out "h." (Piano keys only go to the letter g for those who aren't in the know.) It was great because 11 years ago I did the exact same thing to my piano teacher.
My family: Mummsie's good meals and talks, Dad's songs in the morning, JC and Sara trying out all my food, playing with Elliott (even though he constantly told me to go away), smiling Logan, Janelle, Rick, and Alex for the fun times in Twin, my NV family visiting or meeting up with us in SLC.
My other family (the Marsh Creek Branch): Going to a singles ward is always awkward at first. Try a singles branch. However after many church meetings and FHE's later, I'm really going to miss the people up there. You can always expect teasing from the branch presidency, their wives are always so upbeat, the spirit is strong and uplifting, and my fellow singles are amazing people with so many different talents. I have not only met new friends, but have also strengthened old friendships.
Whew. That was quite a post.
Thanks for helping me survive winter.

Aww thanks Janeen! We had a really good time with you too and think you're pretty swell!! Zumba was fun and personally I think the sound effects and the maracas only added to the fun! Can't wait until we do it again! Have fun in Rexburg and remember: don't let your schooling get in the way of your education!
